No nice price today, so will throw this out here. The tiny two seat CRX was a car that found a market in a much different place and time, when two doors were more popular the crossovers, and small, nimble and easy on gas was still considered a mass market selling point. They seemingly live forever, loved by cheap bastards like me, and the tuner crowd as well.

Does this swapped CRX float your boat

At first I thought “seven grand for a CRX???!?? They’re high!” Then I read what they’d done with it.  Honestly, if it was well done, I’d have to say nice price.  That thing should scream with those updates.  And I like the purple.

I hate when they say $x invested...  nope, it’s not an investment at that point.

No it is technically an investment, just rarely a good one.

Money spent does not always mean investment, the term implies money or resources are spent with an expectation of some income or return. You are probably better of f thinking you are spending money on a car for fun, rather than thinking you  are “investing in it” much less chance for disappointment.  Of course that may very well be how seller saw it, but probably better marketing to characterize it as an investment rather than a money pit.

You want to know the first thing that struck me when looking at this ad? The water temp gauge on the A-pillar. Why do you need one up there if you already have one in the standard instrument cluster? Hmm, maybe the stock one doesn’t work. So, they’d rather dump money into Fast n Furious go-fast bits rather than fix the stock gauge. It’s just another Honda engine, so there aren’t going to be any compatibility issues that would cause the gauge to not work. If they cheaped out on this, what other shortcuts did they take?

I’m reminded of a doofus on YouTube that bought an old class-8 truck to fix up. He spent all of his attention, time and money on paint and chrome and other silly shit and then discovered that the engine and transmission were toast. Wrong approach.

I’m also thinking back to those that made fun of me when I was modifying my cars years ago. They couldn’t understand why I was sinking my money into brake and suspension mods before I added power. One guy had a Vega with a 350 in it, with everything else stock. He couldn’t get into too much trouble since he was constantly snapping stock the Vega differentials (followed by trips to the junkyard to buy more stock Vega differentials...) Then again, most of these guys only like to go in straight lines, whereas I actually preferred carving up twisty canyons. We never did it , but I believe that if we held a race through one of those canyons I could have handily beat him despite half as many cylinders and a 100+ horsepower deficit.

Would never buy a car like this from a dealer. Instant CP.

In a lot of cases, factory gauges can be wildly inaccurate.

For example, our ‘89 Mustang has an oil pressure gauge under the dash because the stock ones aren’t any good even when they work.

From what I’ve read about Ford oil pressure gauges, particularly in the F-150, is that they’re essentially idiot lights with a needle attached and don’t really indicate oil pressure other than “Yes, there is some”.

My Mazda5 doesn’t have a coolant temperature gauge and I’m rather uncomfortable with that. For several years I was running an app on my phone that gave me extra gauges, but now I run a little LCD thing that can display the  data and I feel better. I know this wasn't an easy option on pre-OBD II vehicles, but there are so many other aesthetically questionable things on that CRX that make me think that more money was put into flash rather than substance.
